2001 Chevy Silverado 4WD LT 6.0L V8. Rust, rust, rust! Safety problem with brake lines rusting out and no braking effort after rupture. Exhaust manifold studs break off due to expansion and contraction, leaving you with an expensive repair bill. That is on top of the brake lines. Go to NHTSA and read the stories of people who lost their brakes in traffic. GM refuses to recall. Many items that were designed incorrectly and GM refuses to step up to the plate.

I have the pop-up goose neck hitch and the 8.1L engine. Massive power, but massive gas guzzler. It will pass everything but a gas station.

I bought this truck used with 72k miles. It has the 8.1/Allison combo. Right from the start the windshield washer, horn, interior lights did not work. I noticed many electrical glitches coming and going. Now the trans is giving me troubles not to mention the piston slap. Chevy refuses to take responsibilty for any of the issues. I understand the truck has 78k now and is 7 yrs old, but this many problems should not occur this early. Had Fords my whole life and never had this many problems. I tried Chevy and the problems never stop coming. They dont offer enough space to list all that has gone wrong. Chevy step up or you will lose customers!

This truck is strong off the dealer lot. After a few miles it was nothing but problems. bad transfer case, 3 BCMs, wiring harnesses, fuel economy, now I have just found diesel in the crankcase...

  • Gm Junk - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

GM junk, 800 miles two injections ports go, cab lights leaked, dash rattled, drive shaft replaced, engine knock, oil consumption, 4x4 switch bad, rear springs sag, front driver side sag. sold it and bought a Dodge cummings.

Power wise I have been very happy with the truck, I pull a heavy gooseneck horse trailer cross country a couple times a year, as well as haul a lot of hay. Gas mileage stinks but, I expect that. It is very comfortable to drive also. The problem is the body design - the dang thing is literally coming to pieces. I live in a rural area with rough roads. This truck is just not designed to handle it. Soon I will have to have a flatbed put on because every brace on the wheel wells is broken loose and rattling. I have used G.M. trucks for 23 years, this one is the worst ever as far as durability. The next one will likely be a Dodge, or back to an older, tougher G.M.

Ive owned this truck for five months now. I tow a 6000 lb trailer over the mountian pass with it.The power is very good.Handles like a dream. I havent had any problems yet, no engine noise or cold start knock. I have been getting 12.5 mpg aroung city and while towing the trailer I get 10.6 mpg. The tow/haul mode on the transmission works well . Its worth it. The 6.0 motor doesnt sound like it is straining at all. The seats are comfortable for the wife nad me and the rear seat is pleanty roomy for the 10 year old boy. This is my third Chevy truck and the best one by far.

  • GM down the tubes - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

My 2001 Chevy HD started the notorious engine knock at 7,000mi. With just over 13000 mi. on it now,the transmission went out.I now know why I avoided chevy pickups for years. They may look nice, but they are junk, and GM wont back them.

  • I love my truck - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

The first several months I would come home at night and tell my wife "I love my truck". She owns a 2000 Yukon, but we feel so much more secure and sit higher, so we use the truck more. Ive towed a heavy construction trailer with a tractor and the rear bumper barely dropped. The rental shop was impressed. Also tow a 30 ft 9000 lb travel trailer with ease. My 66" and 400 lb son fits in the back seat only way

  • great truck - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This is my first big truck of my own. I worked for a company and drove their trucks like this but they were poorly taken care of. I moved up from a S-10. This truck is great; lots of power, rides ok, very dependable, comfortable, quiet inside the cab -- not much road noise or wind noise.
